3D Printing & Quality

At TerrainCraft, every piece of 3D printed terrain and scenery is produced to order and carefully inspected before it is packaged and dispatched.

Our models are produced using FDM 3D printing, a process that builds each model layer by layer. This allows us to create detailed scenery and miniature accessories in a wide range of shapes and sizes while keeping our products affordable.

Our terrain and scenery can be used for tabletop gaming, dioramas, miniature displays, model-making projects and other creative scenes.

Because FDM printing is a layered manufacturing process, each printed piece can have subtle characteristics that are part of how it is made. We aim to provide clean, high-quality models while retaining the natural characteristics of the printing process.

What can I expect from my print?

Layer Lines

FDM 3D printing builds a model layer by layer. As a result, very fine horizontal layer lines may sometimes be visible, particularly on larger or smoother surfaces.

These are a normal characteristic of FDM printing and are generally much less noticeable once the model has been painted.

Support Marks

Some models require removable supports during printing. Small marks or slight surface texture may occasionally remain where supports have been removed.

We remove the necessary supports before dispatch and inspect each model to ensure it is ready for use.

Minor Surface Variations

Small seams, slight variations in surface texture or other minor printing characteristics can occasionally occur. These can vary from one print to another and are a normal part of the 3D printing process.

We do not expect every print to have a completely uniform, injection-moulded appearance.

Do I need to post-process my model?

No. TerrainCraft models are supplied ready to use.

For gaming terrain and general scenery, no additional preparation is normally required.

If you’re creating a highly detailed diorama or miniature display and want an especially smooth finish before painting, you can carry out optional post-processing such as lightly sanding areas where required.

The amount of preparation you choose will depend on the model and the finish you want to achieve.

Are the models ready to paint?

Yes. Our models are supplied ready for you to paint.

For the best painting results, you may wish to:

  1. Remove any remaining small support remnants if necessary.
  2. Lightly sand any areas where you want an especially smooth finish.
  3. Apply a suitable primer before painting.

The amount of preparation required will depend on the individual model and the level of finish you want to achieve.

How do you check the models?

Every model is inspected before being packaged for dispatch.

We check for issues such as:

  • Incomplete or failed sections
  • Significant printing defects
  • Loose or unwanted support material
  • Major surface imperfections
  • Damage caused during handling

We will not knowingly send a model that has a significant printing defect.

Will every print look exactly the same?

Not necessarily.

Small differences in surface texture, layer appearance and other minor characteristics can occur between individual prints. These variations are a normal result of the FDM manufacturing process.

The overall model, dimensions and intended design remain consistent.

What if my model arrives damaged or has a significant defect?

Although every order is checked before dispatch, occasionally something can go wrong during printing, handling or delivery.

If your model arrives damaged or has a significant manufacturing defect, please contact us as soon as possible and provide details of the issue. We will assess the problem and work with you to find an appropriate solution.

Our Quality Promise

We want every TerrainCraft order to arrive looking great and ready for your project.

Our models are designed and printed to balance detail, durability and practical production times, whether they’re being used as tabletop terrain, diorama scenery, miniature display pieces or part of another creative project.

Minor characteristics inherent to FDM 3D printing are normal, but significant printing defects are not. Every model is inspected before it leaves us.
