The iron bands wrap securely over the arched lid while reinforcing the corners of the casket, giving the piece the appearance of a heavily constructed burial container designed to withstand the passage of time.
A prominent raised cross sits directly in the centre of the lid, completing the distinctive design and giving the casket an unmistakable funerary character.
