The Parsnip Patch brings a less common but recognisable crop to your miniature countryside. Four broad-shouldered roots sit partially buried in an oval plot of tilled soil, with their pale upper sections emerging between uneven furrows. Above each root, a thick cluster of deeply divided, serrated leaves creates a bushy silhouette that distinguishes parsnips from the broader foliage of turnips or the feathery tops of carrots.
The contrast between smooth root surfaces and heavily textured leaf sprays gives the piece plenty of character when painted. Use ivory, pale cream or muted tan for the exposed roots, with darker brown washes settling into the soil furrows. Olive and forest greens help bring out the layered foliage, while lighter green highlights can pick out the raised leaf edges.
Place the patch beside a cottage, tuck it into a kitchen garden behind a tavern, or combine it with other vegetable plots to build a varied medieval farmstead. Its low profile makes it easy to position alongside buildings, paths and market scenery without overwhelming the surrounding miniature landscape. It also works well in rural dioramas and displays depicting everyday agricultural life.
